General Meeting Minutes
We began the evening at 6:45 with a Christmas Traditions Icebreaker led by Deena Mitchell. President Kay Pontious called the Meeting to order at 7:05pm. Small groups discussed their Christmas traditions and tallied their answers to such questions as: How many Christmas trees are in your house? How many Aggies are attending your Christmas celebration, etc., and then the spokesperson for each group shared the answers for their group.
Secretary Sherri Whitehurst posted minutes and they were emailed to Membership. Minutes were approved as corrected.
Treasurer Cindy Shelley presented Treasurer’s Report. The beginning balance on 11/17/09 was $8,104.85. Total Income $126.45 and Expenses $526.75 leaving a Balance of $7,704.55 as of 12/03/09. Amegy Bank Investment Account balance was $2,267.61 as of 12/03/09. The Treasurer’s Report will be filed for audit.
Officer and Committee Reports
Vice President/Student Drawings Cheryl Black has collected monies for two drawings.
Parliamentarian Marie Rockwood announced Bylaws Committee will meet in January. Members are Chair Marie Rockwood, Renee Anchors, Sonna Lumpkins, Kay Pontious and Cindy Shelley.
Care Packages Tondi Martin announced Care Packages will be delivered to College Station and Galveston campuses on Thursday, Dec. 8 th; sign up to help with assembly and delivery.
Hospitality/Door Prizes Debbie Vaugh/Ellen Schultz thanked everyone for bringing the refreshments and passed a sign-up sheet for the February General Meeting.
Membership Sylvia Rowehl reported 46 members in attendance tonight.
Directory Cathy McMaster distributing directories.
Publications Jamie Wagner was welcomed as the new Publicity Chair. She encouraged everyone to join the new Katy/West Houston Aggie Mom’s Facebook group.
Scholarships Val Reeves reviewed the guidelines for the scholarship application which is due April 1 st. Applications are available to pick up tonight or you can download online. Kay went over some of the specifics of the application.
Ways & Means Mary Okruhlik/Amy Schreiber encouraged everyone to come by the Boutique tables and purchase those Aggie gifts for the holidays. Also they have one Aggie member shirt to deliver and two available for sale.
Skit- Board Members (with help of volunteers) entertained the group with a performance of the “The First 12 Weeks at A&M” to the tune of the “12 Days of Christmas”
The Aggie Externship “A Gift Students can give their Parents” presented by Cindy Shelley. She explained the details of this program, which her daughter has participated in, and asked the members to encourage their student to sign-up.
Old Business
*Care Packages will be assembled Monday Dec.7 th @ 7pm and delivered to College Station on Tuesday Dec.8 th; sign up to help and remind your students. Tondi will take photos of student receiving their goodies.
New Business
*Special Appreciation to all Moms of graduated students who volunteer their time to Club. Special thanks to Emma Lipperdt who has contributed and served on the board of our club (including President) for many years. She was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
*Aggie Mom’s Raffle: Ticket sales will begin at February General meeting and continue until Howdy Social in June when the drawing will take place.
*Join Facebook Group, Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms.
*Federation and District IV meeting January 22&23 @ College Station.
*Join /Renew membership tonight $20.
*Matinee Movie Moms canceled due to weather this week
* Thank you donation has been made to Living Word Lutheran Church for use of meeting room.
*Big Event: Saturday, March 27 th: “No Sew Fleece Blankets” Look for sales and purchase your fleece. Blankets will be donated to local Hospitals or non-profit organizations.
*Aggie Mom and/or Dad Bunco Social: Saturday February 20th.
*Scholarship Application available on web site; must be postmarked by April 1st.
Introduction of new members and guest.
Door Prizes drawing: winners were: Kay Pontious, Theresa Ashton and Donna Whitt.
Student Drawings: Cheryl drew 2 names whose students will receive Wal-Mart gift cards.
12th Mom Stretch: Aggie Left/Right game with Ornament Exchange. Story read by Sonna Lumpkins
Next General Meeting: Thursday February 4 th @ 6:45pm. (NO January Meeting)
