General Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Sonna Lumpkins. Sonna welcomed all to the meeting.
The speaker tonight was Nick Petree, who is the President of the Memorial Student Center (MSC). He is a Sr. Marketing major and will attend Law School next year.
He spoke to us about all the renovations that are going to be going on at the MSC. Some things will be the same, but there will be a lot of updating and changes made. He said that about every 20 years they do an update to the building. Some of the things they are planning to accomplish with this renovation are as follows:
The main thing to know is that as of August 15, 2009 the MSC will be completely closed down!
The minutes of the February 2009 meeting were posted and approved as read.
Treasurer, Marie Rockwood. Marie reported that as of February 17 , 2009 the checking account balance was $3438.47. The investment account balance as of February 17 , 2009, was $25,731.08. The treasurer’s report was approved as read.
Officer and Committee Reports
Vice President at Large/Love Fund – Penny Nelson – making a sympathy card for the Federation President Mary Cooper, whose Dad died last Friday.
Vice President/Student Drawings – Sherri Whitehurst. Enough money was collected to have four drawings.
Parliamentarian/Grocery Rebate – Kathleen Wilburn – no report for either.
Care Packages – Tondi Branch – over 100 care packages have already been sold, so don’t wait too long to buy yours! They will be put together at Tondi’s house on Monday May 4 th and delivered Tuesday May 5 th.
Historian – Ginger Westbrook – no report, other than she will continue taking pictures to be put in the club scrapbook.
Hospitality/Door Prizes – Lori provided another lovely table setting to display all the refreshments and goodies brought by members. Lori thanked everyone that brought goodies and passed around a signup sheet for April meeting.
Membership/directory – Emma Lipperdt – We presently have 162 members. There are a total of 46 members in attendance tonight, 2 new moms joined, 1 at the meeting tonight and one by mail.
Programs – Renee Anchors – Next meeting in April is still not confirmed. Howdy Social is going to be June 8 th at Holy Covenant Methodist church, the same place where we will be doing Big Event.
Publications – Kay Pontious – Bricks will be installed for graduating seniors by Koldus building; there are 26,000 Freshmen applications, in which is an increase of African Americans and Hispanics; the students have been hearing about how to be Safe over Spring Break, especially if they go to Mexico.
Scholarships – Onaida Reichen absent tonight – only has received one application so far…deadline is April 1 st!
Socials – Theresa Ashton – Couples Bunco February 13, 2009 at Marie Rockwood’s was another success. She mentioned that someone from Briscoe Manor is interested in getting groups to come there for activities. This is something that we can check into at a later date.
Telephone Hotline – Ann Coker – Absent – keep listening to her updates
Ways and Means – Kathleen Wilburn spoke about Parents Weekend. We are still in need of at least 1 if not 2 people to help Mary Okruhlik. Be sure and sign up to help.
Webmaster – Kathy Keeney – absent
Old Business
Big Event – Saturday, March 28 th, 2009. We will be doing the tied fleece blankets project again this year. You don’t have to sew, just cut and tie the ends together. So start your purchase of 1 ½ - 2 yds. for the blanket tops of any print or solid fleece, and coordinating yardage for the bottom. Look for sales! Money and fabric donations are gratefully accepted. The blankets will be donated to local hospitals children’s wards. It is going to be held at Holy Covenant Methodist Church, on Morton Ranch road, which is near N. Mason Road. The time is 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Directions are to go north on Mason, pass Franz Road, turn left on Morton Ranch Rd. , 2 nd church on the left. We will be in Covenant hall. Any questions, call Renee Anchors 832-236-4717. Bring sharp scissors & an appetizer or dessert. High schoolers can also earn community hours if they would like to come at help out.
Sonna explained what Big Event was at A&M for those moms that might not have known why we were doing this event on this day.

The Slate of Officers for 2009-2010 was presented with no nominations coming from the floor for any office.

Sonna reminded moms about graduates this year. If your Aggie is an August ‘08. December ‘08, or May ’09 graduate, please be sure she has their name so they can be recognized at the Howdy Social in June.
Parent’s weekend: April 17-19 will be the 90 th year for this gathering. Be sure and sign up for boutique to work in booth Friday or Saturday.
President’s Raffle: tickets $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. (drawing at the June Howdy Social)
Matinee Movie Moms – Cindy Long - they meet on Fridays – wear your maroon shirts! – no new movie to see, so there will not be one this Friday March 6 th.
Join/renew membership’s tonight ($20) dues.
