General Meeting Minutes

President Kay Pontious called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM. She welcomed everyone with a big Howdy and announced that we would complete “Aggie Mom Bingo” cards during the 12 th Mom Stretch. Kay announced that Linda Drago, from Quality Designs, was selling Aggie themed harvest and holiday items, but that all additional sales must take place after the meeting. Linda will donate 15% of her sales to our club.

Secretary-Sherri Whitehurst presented the September General minutes. The minuteswere approved as corrected.

Treasurer-Cindy Shelley submitted the Treasurer’s Report, as follows: Checking account beginning balance as of 9/11/09-$4,526.37, Income $2,360.00, Expenses $875.95, Ending Balance as of 10/02/09 $6,010.42. Investment Account balance as 10/02/09-$2,266.66. Treasurer report will be filed for audit.

Guest Speaker-Val Reeves introduced Director of the Student Counseling Center Dr. Maggie Gartner. She distributed handouts and then discussed the Big FIVE Student adjustments and how parents can help. Other topics included: Parental Missteps, FERPA Guidelines and “How is College Different from High School?” Dr. Gartner answered questions and said to email her at mgartner@scs.tamu.edu for additional information. Val presented Dr. Gartner with a gift donated by Linda Drago from Quality Designs.

Aggie Mom Camp Information and Skit-Kay and Karen M. Bell explained the benefits of attending Aggie Mom Camp. Board members performed a skit created last year by Kay and Karen’s camp, the Aggie Two-Steppers. Kay asked who was attending and asked it anyone needed room mates to talk to her after the meeting, registration due October 10.

Officer and Committee Reports

Vice President at Large Sonna Lumpkins reported Love Fund balance is $165.15 and she sent one condolence card.
Vice President/Student Drawings Cheryl Black selling tickets for drawing, gift cards will be purchased with the funds to send to students.
Parliamentarian/Grocery Rebate Ginger Westbrook (for Marie Rockwood) gave info on Kroger and Randall’s rebate program and ink cartridge recycling.
Care Packages Tondi Branch reported only 6 care packages left for sale. A sign-up sheet to help assemble and deliver Fall Care Packages is being passed around.
Directory Cathy McMaster reported directories will be ready for the November General Meeting. Renew or join by October 10 to be included.
Hospitality/Door Prizes Debbie Vaughn thanked everyone who brought refreshments tonight and is passing around sign-up sheet for the November General Meeting.
Membership Cathy McMaster (for Sylvia Rowehl) reported 58 members in attendance tonight. We have a total of 139 members.
Programs Val Reeves (for Margaret Thomas Mouton) reported that Bonfire will be the program for the November General Meeting.
Socials Ginger Westbrook (for Onaida Reichen) reported that the next Social will be October 15 at Mercury Bar the Villagio Shopping Center from 6:30-9:00 PM.
Telephone Hotline Ann Coker updates the Hotline regularly; please pick-up a magnets with the Hotline # 281-394-8108.
Ways & Means Mary Okruhlik/Amy Schreiber encouraged members to shop for Harvest and Holiday items from Quality Design after the meeting is adjourned. Please volunteer to work at our club’s table during Seasons in Aggieland, October 30-31. A sign-up sheet is coming around. For those who ordered Club shirts, please pick them up tonight.

12 th Mom Stretch: Members completed their Aggie Mom Bingo cards and placed them in the container for the door prize drawing.
