General Meeting Minutes
At the Check-in Table, each attendee received a “Football Ticket” and nametag. They visited the information tables and got their tickets punched for the door prize drawing.
President Kay Pontious called the meeting to order at 7:25 PM. She introduced herself and explained the “Howdy” and “Whoop” traditions. Kay said she was honored to have the opportunity to serve as president and explained that, as members, we are part of a unique organization-the Federation of Texas A&M Mothers’ Clubs, and then gave history of the organization and our club. Since the Federation’s theme this year will be “Coming Home to Aggieland,” our theme will be “Bringing Aggieland Home to Katy”. WHOOP!!
Kay introduced the 2009-2010 Officers. They told about their Aggies, explained their duties and gave their reports.

- Vice President at Large-Sonna Lumpkins, Love Fund-current balance $143.15
- Vice President/Student Drawings-Maria Olguin will be resigning due to work obligations; Cheryl Black has volunteered to fill the position.
- Secretary-Sherri Whitehurst minutes on bulletin board. Minutes were approved as posted.
- Treasurer-Cindy Shelley explained the process our club used to fund the 2 nd Endowed Opportunity Award Scholarship. Report-8/18/09: Amergy Bank checking account beginning balance 3,176.13 with Income of 26,575.18 and Expenses of 27,627.04; ending balance 2,124.27. Amegy Bank savings account beginning balance 28,498.92 with a transfer of 26,250.00 to fund the Opportunity Award Endowment and stipend for 2009-2010 scholarship; Ending balance 2,248.92, Treasurer’s report will be filed for audit.
- Parliamentarian –Marie Rockwood absent, Ann Coker served and reported on Kroger and Randalls Grocery Rebate programs and recycling ink cartridges at Office Max for credit.
The Class of 2013 Fun Facts -Karen M. Bell talked about the tradition of “Whoop.”
Kay introduced the 2009 -2010 Committee Chairpersons. They told about their Aggies, explained their duties and gave their reports.
- Membership-Sylvia Rowehl reported 59 new/renewal memberships tonight.
- Directory- Cathy McMaster-Directories will be distributed in November.
- Hospitality/Door Prizes- Debbie Vaughn/Ellen Schultz thanked Board members for bringing refreshments and passed a sign-up sheet for the October General Meeting.
- Care Packages- Tondi Branch selling Fall Care Packages, limited number, so order early; forms also available online.
- Historian-Ginger Westbrook takes pictures at meetings and events.
- Telephone Hotline-Ann Coker Hotline Phone # 281-394-8108, updated monthly.
- Ways & Means-Mary Okruhlik/Amy Schreiber have new items for purchase: Club shirts and Aggie Towels; also, passed sign-up sheet to volunteer at Seasons of Aggieland, October 30-31 and told about the Spring Boutique.
- Socials- Onaida Reichen/Theresa Ashton planned Social for September 10 @ Santorini’s in Villagio at Peek and Westheimer Parkway; food and drink specials with live music.
- Programs-Margaret Thomas Mouton-October will have the Director of the Student Counseling Center and November will have Traditions Council to talk about Bonfire.
- Publications-Karen Bell sent meeting announcement and Howdy Social follow-up to local publications; making a scrapbook of press releases.
- Scholarships-Val Reeves had a special guest at her house Reveille!! She also reported that our club gives scholarships to students in our area and these scholarships are funded through our Ways and Means. The application to apply will be on the website in January.
- Webmaster-Gail Wells has updated the following items on the website: Main Page, Officers/Committees, Calendar, Membership, Scholarship, Activities and Newsletters.
12 th Mom Stretch: attendees finished getting punches on their Football Tickets and placing in Door Prize container. After visiting each table the punches spelled HOWDY!!
Aggie Mom Camp Information and Skit: Theresa Ashton gave details. Board presented a “Tailgate” skit chanting the song “MOTHER, the sweetest word an Aggie ever heard”.
Old Business
After membership voted in May, five, $100 donations were made to the following student organizations: CARPOOL, Fish Camp, Traditions Council, Parsons Mounted Cavalry and EIC (Environmental Issues Committee).
Sonna Lumpkins: Eight board members attended the Fall Federation Meeting and Workshops. They even had their photos taken with Dr. Bowen, Interim President of Texas A&M. Kay Pontious and Penny Nelson also attended the President’s Dinner.
New Business
- Club funded 2 nd Endowed Opportunity Award plus stipend for 2009-2010 Scholarship, Kay Pontious read thank you from the Texas A&M Foundation.
- Aggie Mom Fish Camp/Weekend Retreat November 13-15, “Aggie Moms Just Want to Have Fun!” register at www.aggiemoms.org, all supporters are welcome.
- Don’t forget Social is Thursday September 10 at Santorini’s, sign-up sheet being passed.
- Matinee Movie Moms-Cindy Long explained the Friday Chick Flick movie outing, sign- up for email reminder.
- Renew your membership tonight: dues $20 and KWHAMC shirts are available if you would like to purchase one.
- Seasons of Aggieland October 30-31, sign up to volunteer.
- New members introduced themselves and told of their Aggie’s name, class and major.
- Members shared Aggie Brags and Good Bull Stories. Kay talked about the Gilbert Leadership Conference (GLC), a leadership conference designed especially for freshman.
- Drawing for Door Prizes –Debbie Vaughn/Ellen Schultz, we had 3 lucky winners: Margaret Davis, Kelly McDaniel and Sheri Bauerlein.
- Student Drawings-Maria Olguin/ Cheryl Black collected funds for 8 drawings tonight.
- Announcements- Kathleen Wilburn selling Pecans, Fundraiser for Collin County Club.
Next General meeting is October 8 th @ 7:00 note 2 nd Thursday due to building conflict.
