General Meeting Minutes

The President of Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms, Penny Nelson, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Guest Speaker – Ginger Westbrook introduced CARPOOL representatives Matt Grohman and Chris Eschbach. CARPOOL started in ’98 with 6000 rides given to students. On the biggest night 499 rides were given. In February CARPOOL reached 100,000 rides. A student can call for a ride Thursday thru Saturday 10:00pm till 3:00am or until all rides are completed. Enterprise loans 18 cars per night. The CARPOOL number is on the back of all student ID’s. No questions are asked of those needing rides except they must read the agreement and those needing rides are taken home. 300 members are in CARPOOL, members receive training in recognizing alcohol poisoning and medical help is called for if needed. Each car carries one female and one male CARPOOL member during rides. Many other universities have copied Texas A&M’s CARPOOL, it is a wonderful organization. Many lives have been saved since this service became available to Aggies.
