General Meeting Minutes

The President of Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms, Penny Nelson, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Guest Speaker – Ginger Westbrook introduced two students from BIG EVENT. They were Kellen Getz and Hayli Sobolik. Both gave us lots of information about how BIG EVENT happens. It is the largest one day community service project held anywhere. This year, in March, they are expecting approximately 10,000 students to participate, accomplishing over 1100 jobs in just ONE DAY. Hayli arranges the food for the students. Kellen is in charge of a silent auction for a fund raising.

Secretary, Kathleen Wilburn said the minutes were posted near the entrance. Nancy Williford made the motion to approve the minutes, and Pam Zinnante seconded. The minutes were approved as posted .

Treasures Report-Theresa Ashton reported as of 12/13/2007 that the checking account balance was $6,167.08. There was no income for January. The monthly expenses were $70.95, with a balance as of 1/15/08 of $6,096.13. The investment account balance as of 12/13/07 was $23,544.14. Emma Lipperdt made the motion to approve the minutes and Sonna Lumpkins seconded. The Treasurer’s Report stands approved as read.

Officers and Committees

Vice President at Large/ Love Fund-Nancy Williford said the Love Fund has $149.14.

Vice President/Student drawings-Karen Kurt Nancy Williford, in Karen’s absence, said there would be 3 student drawings.

Parliamentarian-Renee Anchors No report

Care Packages- JoAnn Young & Vicki Welsch Showed the cooled bag that would have ATM printed on it. The cost of care packages is $20.00 and 100 bags had been ordered. Order now…..only 100 available.

. Membership/Directory- Emma Lipperdt said we have 142 members. Two new members joined at the meeting. The new 2007-2008 Membership form is on the website. http://www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com/ The Directories are available.

Grocery Rebates- Renee Anchors –We received $86.04 from the Randall’s Rebate Program. Kroger was stopping their rebate program for a while. Renee encouraged all to bring in ink cartridges and cell phones for recycling

Hospitality/Door prizes-Lori Etchison In Lori’s absence Kathleen Wilburn decorated the table using Lori’s Valentine display. Kathleen thanked everyone that brought food and drinks.

Programs- Ginger Westbrook March program will be CHANGE. Remember to bring your change. (Coins)

Publications-Kay Pontious told us about 80 new buses ATM acquired.

Scholarship-Debbie Derong. Four $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded. The application is on line. http://www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com/

Socials- Onaida Reichen. A Bunco night will be held at the home of Kay Pontious on February 15, 2008

Friday Movie- Cindy Long. Fool’s Gold @ Katy Mills Mall @ 10:25am.

Ways and Means-Christina McCaslin, Kathy Keene, and Margaret King Heart of Katy sign up sheets at the table. Come see lots of new things at the table.

Old Business

District IV Meeting – January 26, 2008 by NW Harris County Aggie Moms’ at the Hilton Garden Inn. Emma Lipperdt, Onaida Reichen and Penny Nelson attended. The Moms had fun.

Big Event – March 29, 2008. Make blankets for a child’s cancer unit. “Fit to be tied” will be 1:00—4:00pm at the Living Word Lutheran Church on March 29, 2008. Bring your material, and scissors. Snacks will be provided. Monetary donations or material are accepted.

Remember your spare CHANGE for the March meeting.

New Business

Introduction of new members- First time moms told about themselves and their Aggie. Welcome to Aggie Moms and to the Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms Club.

Slates of Officers for 2008-2009 are: President—Sonna Lumpkins, Vice President At Large—Penny Nelson, Secretary—Debbie Derong, Treasurer—Karen Kurt, Parliamentarian—Kathleen Wilburn.

Federation News – Nancy Williford gave information on upcoming meetings. Penny went to meetings for District 12 Deep East Texas, District 3 Rusk County, and the Chartering of the Nacogdoches Club.

Student Drawings-Karen Kurt. Nancy Williford in Karen’s absence said there was enough for 3 student drawings. Congratulations to the lucky student winners!

Next General Meeting is Thursday, March 6, 2008 @ 7:00pm. The meeting is in the Preschool Building.
