General Meeting Minutes

The President of Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms, Penny Nelson, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Guest Speaker – Ginger Westbrook introduced Dr. Andrew Dare from the Beutel Health Center. Dr. Dare is the Chief of Staff at Texas A&M Health Center. Dr Dare gave valuable information about Beutel to Katy Aggie Moms. He even offered his direct number 979-458-8276. Beutel has 12 full time staff, and a women’s clinic, all available to students as a part of their fees. There is a Specialty Department, not covered by tuition fees, available to students also. The EMS Department is unique to A&M, manned by a volunteer staff. For Appointments call 979-458-8250. The website is http://shs.tamu.edu

Secretary, Kathleen Wilburn said the minutes were posted near the entrance. The minutes were approved as posted .

Treasures Report-Theresa Ashton reported as of 9/9/2007 that the checking account balance was $4,143.50. The monthly income was $2,198.00, the monthly expenses were $1,939.00, with a balance as of 10/16/07 of $4,402.50. The investment account balance as of 9/9/07 was $23,485.83, and investment income interest of $19.21, for a balance of $23,505.04. The Treasurer’s Report stands approved as read.

Officers and Committees

Vice President at Large/ Love Fund-Nancy Williford said the Love Fund has $212.24.

Vice President/Student drawings-Karen Kurt said there would be 4 student drawings. Karen told a story about an Aggie that wanted to donate some money to the student drawings. (Aggie Moms just love to hear stories like the one shared by Karen)

Parliamentarian-Renee Anchors No report

Care Packages- Laurel Adami had sold 112 care packages. The packages will be assembled at Laurel’s house on 29 Nov. and delivered on 30 Nov. at the MSC on Friday, 30 Nov.

. Membership/Directory- Emma Lipperdt said we have 137 members, 52 signed in for the evening and 4 new members at the meeting. The new 2007-2008 Membership form is on the website. http://www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com/ The Directories are available.

Grocery Rebates- Renee Anchors –Renee reminded us that we can turn in our Ink Jets and cell phones for recycling. We received $122.42 From Kroger’s rebate program.

Historian-Debbie Szuluk No report.

Hospitality/Door prizes-Lori Etchison had another of her beautiful table settings to display all the goodies. Lori thanked everyone that brought food and drinks.

Programs- Ginger Westbrook told us that next month’s program would be Bring an Ornament in a brown paper bag. $5.00 limit on the ornament.

Publications-Kay Pontious No Report.

Scholarship-Debbie Derong No Report

Socials- Emma Lipperdt talked about the fun we had at the Mexican Cuban Dinner. She encouraged all to attend the next social. Information is available on the calendar on the website. So check the site for upcoming events.

Telephone-Marilyn Mokwa said you could call the Hotline anytime of the day: 281-394-8108, to listen to two minutes of Katy/West Houston Aggie Mom News.

Ways and Means-Christina McCaslin, Kathy Keene, and Margaret King said the sign up sheets for Winter-in-Aggieland were at the table and Aggie Moms were encouraged to sign up to work November 29 or 30.

Aggie Mom’s Camp November 9-11, 2007. Nancy told us many interesting facts about the upcoming event.

New Business

CHANGE – Ginger Westbrook told us that this group would be coming to speak. The group collects change and the money is used to help Aggies purchase their Aggie Ring.

Big Event – March 2008. Make blankets for a child’s cancer unit.

Blood Drive – Nov. 12-18. Colors of Commitment. Donate and get a tee shirt with Texas A&M and Texas colors displayed on it. All can donate at Gulf Coast on Grand Parkway.

Introduction of new members- First time moms told about themselves and their Aggie. Welcome to Aggie Moms and to the Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms Club.

Aggie Brags & Good Bull stories-Please call or send the incredible and interesting news of the Aggie Experience to Sonna Lumpkins for posting on the website http://www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com/.

Drawing for Door Prizes-Lori Etchison announced the winners: Sue Martin, Gayle Woikey, Pam Zinnante, and Terry Schlanger. Congratulations to the lucky winners!

Student Drawings-Karen Kurt said there was enough for four student drawings. Congratulations to the lucky student winners!
