Howdy Aggie Moms!!

Merry Christmas and a Blessed Holiday to all! I hope you enjoy the holiday season with your family and especially with your Aggie during their semester break. My thanks to each of you who have supported Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms this year and I will look forward to seeing you at the February General Meeting.

At our December General Meeting and Party, we enjoyed seeing everyone in all of their funny holiday hats, sweaters, jewelry and socks. We had a fun skit -“The First 12 Weeks at A&M”- where each verse described a problem your student has probably experienced. If that wasn’t funny enough, the off-key singing and silly antics of the participants was lots of fun to watch. Cindy Shelley encouraged us to encourage our students to participate in AggiExternships, organized through the Career Center, over the break. Remember to sign up online before Christmas. Then we played the game where we exchanged a Christmas ornament while reading the story of the Aggie Christmas with the RIGHT Family. Although we first practiced which was our LEFT and RIGHT, it was still funny to see we couldn’t keep up with the RIGHT directions as we passed those brown bags with ornaments LEFT then RIGHT. It all LEFT us laughing so hard! You did get the RIGHT ornament didn’t you? We enjoyed yummy refreshments and fun was had by all.

The Fall 2009 Care Packages were a huge success! Thanks to the moms who packed the items with care and those who delivered 160 bags to the campuses at College Station and Galveston. The US Postal Service has nothing on Chairperson Tondi Branch and these ladies. First, they shopped at Sam’s during the snow, then assembled the items and loaded the bags during a rain storm. The next day they drove through the fog, unloaded in the rain and the students picked up in the wet mess! (I am not sure that is an official weather term). Tondi took pictures of each student receiving their bag, so remember to check out her display board. They were sooooo happy to get a friendly hug along with their Care Package. Since we sold out of Fall Care Packages, we will order more containers for spring, but remember to order early so your student doesn’t miss out!

If you have picked up your 2009-2010 Directory, please check that your information is correct. If a correction needs to be made, contact Directory Chair Cathy McMaster, so that she can include the corrected information in the addendum which will be available at the February Meeting. If you know of a mom who has not yet joined, please encourage her to do so before January 22, so that her information can be included to the addendum. Directories will be available for pick-up at the next meeting.

News from the Nominating Committee: In accordance with the bylaws, Chairperson Sonna Lumpkins, and members of the committee, are soliciting the names of members who would like to serve as one of the 2009-2010 Officers: President, VP at Large, VP Student Drawings, Secretary, Treasurer or Parliamentarian . The slate will be presented at the February General Meeting and elections will be held in March. In addition, the committee will also collect the names of members who would like to serve as committee chairpersons to forward to the new President for confirmation. So, please think about getting more involved in our club and encouraging your friends to do so, also. We have lots of fun on the Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms Board and we would love for you to join us! Please contact Sonna Lumpkins ASAP in January for more information.

Remember the KWHAMC Scholarship Application is now available on our web site. The completed application is due April 1, 2010 and scholarships will be awarded at the Howdy Social in June 2010. Start early and follow the instructions carefully!

Looking forward to Aggie Moms 2010? Remember to “Save the Date” for the Aggie Moms’ Boutique on Parents’ Weekend which is April 16 & 17 in College Station. We have also booked Living Word Lutheran Church for our Big Event Project on Saturday, March 27. We will be tying “No Sew Fleece Blankets” to donate to a local nonprofit. Please purchase 1½ to 2 yards of print or solid fleece for the top and matching yardage of solid for the bottom. Our Aggie Moms’ & President’s Raffle will start in February and the drawing will be held in June at the Howdy Social. We will sell tickets at each meeting for $1 each or 6 for $5 and all proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. Since you don’t have to be present to win, you may also purchase tickets for friends, or community supporters, who would like to support our scholarship campaign. Raffle items will include theme baskets and other Aggie donations.

We will not have a January General Meeting, but please mark your new calendar to join us at Living Word Lutheran Church for the February General Meeting on February 4 th, 2010 at 6:45 for Social and 7 PM for Meeting. We look forward to hearing from student leaders with Alternate Spring Break (ASB) in February. We would love to see you then!
