November 2009 Newsletter

Howdy Aggie Moms!!
What a busy time of year for Aggie Moms! Katy HS Graduates Brent Broussard and Patrick Reeves , along with other members of Traditions Council , presented an informative program on “Bonfire-Past and Present.” They helped us to understand the importance of remembering the 1999 Bonfire Tragedy and the 12 fallen Aggies. Thanks to Dena Mitchell and Nancy Williford for organizing our social time before the Meeting started and our 12 th SUP> Man Stretch game. Cathy McMasters was busy handing out the new 2009-2010 Directories for everyone to enjoy. Thanks so much Cathy!
Thanks also to Ways and Means Chairs Mary Okruhlik and Amy Schreiber who organized the sales and volunteers for the Seasons of Aggieland Bazaar in College Station . Thanks to the volunteers who gave of their time to work at our booth! Don’t forget Aggie items from the Boutique for those special Holiday gifts. Many items are pictured on the Club web site. If you have a special request, please email Mary and she will bring it to the December General Meeting. Also, if you ordered a club shirt, please remember to pick it up.
I am excited to announce our new Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms FACEBOOK Group created by our new Publicity Chairperson Jamie Wagner! If you have a profile, please search for us and join the group. If you do not have a profile, please join me in making one. Jamie has been posting news and she will be happy to help any members who need help with their new profile. In addition, check our website: www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com and our Hotline: 281-394-8108 for the latest announcements. Thanks to Jamie for taking over these job duties from Karen Bell who was not able to continue as Publicity Chairperson. Thanks so much to Karen for her contributions to our club.
November is also the month for the Aggie Mom Fish Camp/Retreat. Speaking of fun, our moms who attended had a great time, so start planning now for next year’s fun!
The “Colors of Commitment” Blood Drive , another November event, is a friendly rivalry between Texas A&M and tu. From November 18-22, former students “bled maroon” at local blood banks to save the lives of others. I can’t wait to hear which school won the competition (the Aggies were in the lead) and also, who won the drawing for 2 tickets to the BIG GAME in College Station , Thanksgiving Day, at 7 PM . Remember, if you don’t get tickets, you and your family are always welcome at the Former Student’s Association to watch the game.
We will be assembling the Fall Care Packages with snacks and goodies on Monday, December 7th at Tondi’s house. Please call her at 281-646-8110 or 832-541-5944 to volunteer for that, or for delivery to College Station on Tuesday, December 8th, 10am-3pm . Please let your student know that you ordered a Care Package for them, when delivery date is, and to pick it up!
This month, our Club received $62 from the Randall’s Grocery Rebate program and $24 credit for recycling ink cartridges at Office Max. So, don’t forget to pick up your Randall’s card and Kroger UPC letter so that you can register KWHAMC as your designated charitable donation. At Kroger’s, you must go to Customer Service and register each year, but at Randall’s your registration carries over each year. Every time you shop, you can raise money for our scholarship fund! It is so easy! Please also continue to bring your ink cartridges to the meetings. We recycle them at Office Max for printing credit.
I know it is hard to plan ahead to January, but I would like to invite you to join me at the annual Federation of Texas A&M Mother’s Clubs District Meetings in College Station , January 22 & 23, 2010. The guest speaker for Friday evening’s dinner will be Kay Bailey Hutchison followed by Saturday’s luncheon and book signing with Aggie author Amy Bacon ’91. The Federation Meeting will be Saturday morning and each District will meet Saturday afternoon. Price includes: meals and accommodations or a meal package may be purchased separately. Please contact me if you are interested. Registration deadline: December 15, 2009 .
Please note that the Minutes from the November General Meeting are attached to this email. Take a moment to read them and to send any corrections/additions to Secretary Sherri Whitehurst. The Minutes will also be posted on the bulletin board before the December General Meeting.
November is the month for us to be thankful and we are thankful for so much. I can’t begin to list and thank all of the wonderful friends who have touched my life. I’m so very grateful for my faith, my freedom, and for those men and women who are protecting us here at home and in far away lands. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be associated with Texas A&M University , its students and Moms like you who have nurtured and guided your kids to become outstanding Aggies! I am honored and grateful to call you my friends and to share and brag about our Awesome Aggies from the Katy area!
Join us for some FUN at our December General Meeting on Thursday, December the 4th at the Living Word Lutheran Church , located at 3700 South Mason Road , (our meeting entrance door is facing Westheimer Parkway ). We are having our annual Aggie Mom Holiday Party with games, a skit, yummy refreshments, and much Aggie Mom silliness! We are having an ornament exchange as part of our Aggie Left/Right game. Please bring a $5-10 ornament, in a brown lunch sack, and staple it closed. It can be an Aggie ornament, but it doesn’t have to be. Come pick up your 2009-2010 Directory. December is sooo much fun, come have some Aggie Mom fun with us!
Y’all come!!!
Aggie Mom love,
