Howdy Aggie Moms!
Wow, can you believe that the holidays are past and January is nearly over! I hope everyone had a Wonderful Christmas or Hanukah and a fun New Years! Now that our students have returned to school, hopefully you have gotten back into your normal routine and you’re ready for some more FUN in Aggie Moms.
In December, we had a fun time. We did three different activities. The first one we were put into groups of three or four depending on the number that we drew as we signed in. That activity included different Christmas traditions that we did at our homes. Each one was worth a total amount of points, depending on how many in the group had the tradition. The next activity was the officers and some of the moms that had attended the Moms retreat did a rendition to the Twelve Weeks of being an Aggie. We had a lot of pitch changes in that song, but ended up at the end together and on the correct pitch. The last activity was where we passed around our Christmas ornaments to Twas the Night Right Before Christmas. Karen Kurt made a version using all the officer and committee person’s names. We ended up passing our gifts to the right and then to the left etc. Then the final activity was opening our ornaments. This was a meeting where everyone had a BLAST!!
The Ways & Means Committee did a great job at Winter-in-Aggieland in December. Thanks to everyone involved with the planning, delivering and working the booth. Thanks also to everyone who helped put together and distribute the Fall Care Packages. We couldn’t have done all this without your help, especially driving in that FOG!!!
It‘s that time again to begin selecting our Officers and Committee for 2008-2009 school year. IF you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact Nancy Williford at 281-492-7551 or ap43nw@swbell.net. To see a list of current offices and committees visit our website www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com.
Our next Mom’s Night Out Social is going to be Friday, February 14 th at Kay Pontious’s house to have a Valentine’s Night Bunco get together for not just us, but our spouses or significant others. J So, put us on your calendar for Friday, February 14 th.
Another exciting event is coming up in February. For the first time the Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms’ are going to have a booth at the Heart of Katy Craft show. This will be another chance to raise more money for our scholarships, and enable those moms who are not able to help with boutique at parents’ weekend or Winter-in-Aggieland to volunteer. We will have a sign up sheet at the February meeting. The dates for the show are February 9 th and 10 th. Who knows, this may turn out to be something annually we do. I look forward to seeing a lot of Aggie Moms there. J
On March 29 th from 1:00-4:00 we are going to be putting our fleece blankets together at the Living Word Lutheran Church. We are going to be cutting and tying at our “Fit to be Tied” event. You can get your fleece at Hancock Fabrics on Mason Road on sale right now. You will need about 1&1/2 to 2 yards of material. You will need two pieces for each blanket. Some have gotten solid and print, or two different solids. You can be creative. J If you would rather not buy material, you can donate money and we will purchase the material for you. Since there is no sewing to do on these, just cut and tie I hope to see a lot of moms that day! J
Our Aggie Mom’s District IV meeting was January 26 th at the Garden Hilton off the Tomball Parkway. It was given by the Northwest Houston Aggie Moms. Emma Lipperdt, Onaida Reichen and I attended. The speaker was from the Women Helping Women organization. It was a very interesting program. She spoke on how they are able to help battered women by giving them not only shelter, but because many are from different ethnic denominations that give them Wal-Mart gift cards for their personal needs, because Wal-Mart will then match their purchases at 5%. It also provides a safety net that no alcohol can be purchased.
Debbie Szuluk and I attended the Winter Federation Meeting held January 12 th at College Station. Nancy Williford was also there as a Federation Committee member.
She and Wanda gave their report on the Aggie Mom Retreat Weekend. It was a great success J Way to go Nancy!! We also heard from the new A&M President Dr. Elsa Murano. She is planning on continuing with the same plan as Past President Robert Gates was hoping to get accomplished. The meeting ended with the Federation going over all the different forms that need to be turned in, and the dates. We are right on target with all of our forms!!
Our speakers for the February 7 th meeting will be from Big Event. In March we will have CHANGE (which we have been collecting our change for), in April CARPOOL and in May the installation of new officers.
Join the FUN at our next meeting on Thursday, February 7 th at 7:00 pm at the Living Word Lutheran Church located at 3700 S. Mason Road in the Gathering Place entrance on Westheimer Parkway. For up-to-date information and event details call our HOTLINE NUMBER 281-394-8108.
See what you’re missing www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com (Pictures, Stories, Recipes, Newsletters & Minutes, Pictures of our Ways and Means Items to buy). Remind those Aggie Moms who couldn’t make the last meeting to hear our speakers, meet and renew friendships with other Aggie Moms.
