Howdy Aggie Moms! March 2008
Our Fit to Be Tied event is today! We had 23 moms there , and are as follows: Emma LIpperdt, Leony Glenn, Renee Anchors, Sonna Lumpkins, Mariam Dumanoir, Linda Bundy, Sherri Whitehurst, Cindy Long, Ginger Westbrook, Karen Sparks, Debbie Derong, Tondi Branch, Charline Macfarlane, Karen Given, Kathleen Wilburn, Kay Pontious, Kathy Waits, Janna HIrt, Theresa Ashton, Lori Etchison Mary Okruhlik, and Penny Nelson. Three S.O.S. (Spartans Out Serving) students from Seven Lakes High School worked on finishing their community hours, and they are Colleen Wagner, Yeoshina Pillay, and Alison Anchors. If I missed anyone, please forgive me. We ended up making 47 blankets!! Way to go moms!!! Thank you for participating in our “Big Event” for the community of Katy/West Houston J I have been touch with the MD Anderson hospital in Katy and they want 10 blankets, as they don’t have that many children. We will be giving the rest to pediatrics at Catherine St. Christus. Kay Pontious has been a very busy person lining up publicity for this event. She has gotten the Houston Chronicle to come out and take pictures of us working on this event, and they were there before most of the moms showed!!! She got some good pictures of everyone working hard. We promised her that we would get one of the entire group and send it to her. Be sure and check our website shortly for pictures of this event!!
Parent’s Weekend is just around the corner (April 10-12). Be sure to go see your students(s) and participate in the tons of activities and entertainment that A&M and your students have planned all year!
Did I mention there is Shopping during Parents Weekend!!! What Aggie Mom doesn’t like to shop….what a perfect time to shop for an upcoming birthday, graduation or even Christmas presents at the Aggie Mom’s Boutique at Reed Arena on Friday and Saturday beginning at 9:00 am each morning until late afternoon. Shop til’ you drop in 100 Aggie Mom’s Club booths that sell everything Aggie. The funds are donated to fund scholarships for TAMU students.
Speaking of boutique, if you have a few extra hours to spare, come help in the FUN by working and visiting with other Aggie Moms in our Katy booth. Contact Kathy Keeney, Chris McCaslin or Margaret King to sign up, or they will have a sign up sheet at the April meeting.
Social Night Out : The Aggie Mom Night at the Houston Astros baseball game April 20 th. If you are interested in going, let me know. If we have 20 or more, the tickets are discounted. They are $8.00 - $21.50. You can go and check out the website at www.astros.com/agmom. The password is agmom. But like I said, if you are interested let me know and if we get twenty or more we will get a discount. I think it will be about three dollars off.
The April 1st Deadline for Scholarship Applications has passed! We will award four $1000.00 scholarships at the annual Howdy Social in June.
For those Moms with Graduating Seniors from August 07, December 07, or May 08, we will be honoring them at the Howdy Social, Wednesday, June 4 th. If you haven’t already, please email me (pennynelsn@aol.com ) with their name, class year and type of degree ASAP so we can make the arrangements. A sign up sheet will be passed around at our April General Meeting.
Order your Spring Care Package for your favorite Aggie! Our cooler full of tasty goodies will be just the thing to jump start those finals. Last day to order will be April 3 rd at the general meeting. They will be delivered April 25 th with the stuffing of the goodies on April 24 th at the Living Word Lutheran Church. The cost is $20.00. Checks made payable to Katy Aggie Moms. You can download the Care Package form from our website www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com., and mail it to the address that is on the form.

Also – Thanks to all the Moms who have volunteered for Committees for next year! We are still in need of someone for scholarship, and care package, which could be two people .
We were privileged to hear someone from CHANGE at our March general meeting. Even with the weather being so unpredictable and a different place to meet at the church we had an excellent turnout of moms!! Thanks to everyone who ventured out J . We were able to present Joshua Vemon with well over $250.00 to take back for the CHANGE organization. CHANGE is an organization that helps those Aggies that can’t afford an Aggie Ring, to be able to get one. They have been doing this since 2004. It was a very interesting talk.
Our April meeting will have CARPOOL speaking to us. This is the group that helps give Aggies rides back to their dorm if circumstances do not permit them to drive themselves home.
Our program at the May meeting will be Installation of Officers.
June 4 th will be Howdy Social where we will award our scholarship winners and meet new incoming freshmen and transfer students and their families. We will also be honoring our graduates. More details will be coming!
Join the FUN at our next meeting on Thursday, April 3 rd at 7:00 pm at the Living Word Lutheran Church located at 3700 South Mason Road in the Gathering Place.
