October 2007

Howdy Aggie Moms!

We had a GREAT turnout for our October meeting. Our membership is growing fast. Emma Lipperdt, our membership chairman has told me we now have 130 paid members and she is still receiving them in her mail. So, I’m expecting to hear a new number at our November meeting. We have lots of new freshmen Moms and previous members joining and renewing memberships. I appreciate the interest in our club as we work together for the success of our students.

Our program this month was Paul Pausky from the Former Students Association. Paul gave all of the moms lots of useful information to help our students in their search for employment during and following their time in Aggieland. He talked about different ways to make your students resume more effective. He told us about Career Center providing extensive web-based resources related to resume formatting and development on the “Student” section of the Career Center’s web-site at http://careercenter.tamu.edu under the “Career and Job Research” link. This information is valuable to both Students and Former Students. There is a full account of what else he talked to us about in the minutes from the general meeting. Paul is a valuable resource for all Aggies. He stayed for our meeting, an answered many questions. He even helped with the take down of the tables and chairs.

Nancy Williford led some of the moms in a game to see what they knew about each other during “The 12 th Mom Stretch.” Afterwards, we all got up and did some stretching and moving around from sitting before going over the by-laws.

A big thank you to Renee Anchors and her committee for the presentation of our additions to the Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms By-Laws so that we can be in accordance to the Federation of Aggie Moms’ By-Laws. Linda Bundy proposed the Motion that we accept the changes as shown and the motion was seconded by Pam Zinnante.

Please remind your Aggie Mom friends that it is not to late to join this year. We will be getting our membership directories at the November meeting, but even if they didn’t make it for this one, we will be doing an addendum in a couple of months for those who join later. Thank you Emma for getting this taken care of, and for sending out the newsletters to our moms.

November 29 and 30 th will be busy days for our Ways and Means ladies, as they will be in College Station for “Winter in Aggieland.” Check with Chris, Kathy or Margaret to see where they still need assistance for those two days. I know they will welcome all the assistance they can get.

Another tradition that our club does is Care Packages for our students. If you haven’t ordered one for your student you can download that form from the website and bring it along with a check for $15.00 to the meeting Thursday Nov. 1 and give it to Laurel Adami. This meeting will be the last time you can order one. . You can also sign up to help assemble or deliver them during Winter-in-Aggieland Nov. 30th.

Our Club participates in a rebate program with Kroger and Randall’s. We will have Kroger cards available at our meetings for those of you who would like one. Every time you shop, we encourage you to simply present your card, and the purchase price of your groceries will automatically be recorded to our Club’s account. We receive one percent of the total purchases at the end of each quarter. We have a number that we use at Randall’s. Renee Anchors will have more information about these programs at the November meeting as well as the Kroger cards.

To make it convenient for our Aggie Moms to get the latest information about our club, call the Katy/West Houston A&M University Moms’ Hotline at 281-394-8108. You can call this number at anytime to find out what is happening or coming up with our Club. Marilyn Mokwa will have magnets available at the meetings for you to take home. You can also visit our website (www.katywesthoustonaggiemoms.com) to download general meeting minutes, newsletters, care package order forms, scholarship applications and see our Ways & Means items. More information will be given at our October 4 th general meeting.

Nancy Williford reported that Fort Bend Moms club is in competition with us to have the most moms at the Mom Weekend Retreat. I look forward to seeing all of you who signed up. This will be my 10 th year to attend. I will be one of counselors this year for Camp Singing Aggies!! See you Nov. 9-11 in College Station.

I am sorry that I had to miss our first night out function, but I heard that there was a good turnout to Candela’s last Thursday night. There was a lot of laughter and chattering going on while everyone was getting to know each other. Talk of a game night maybe in November was discussed. Do you know how to play ‘Apples to Apples?’ If not, your will find out at one of our game nights.

The officers and I invite you to our next meeting on Thursday November 1st at 7:00 pm at the Living Word Lutheran Church located at 3700 South Mason Road. Please join us and remind those Aggie Moms who couldn’t make the October meeting to join us to hear our speaker from the Beutel Health Center and meet and renew friendships with other Aggie Moms.

Aggie Mom Love,
